You can get orders of tacos for half off on Tuesdays at El Cortez, and it’s one of our favourite weekly specials in Edmonton for cheap eats and happy hour prices. You’re going to love the tacos, all of them, but make sure to order a variety of the flavours so you can discuss and choose which ones you loved the most. If you feel like splurging, get the cauliflower, it’s the best you’ll ever have.
Climb the Walls at the University | $28
Want to go high up, without going outside? Head into the climbing facility at the University of Alberta. The climbing date for two won’t set you back more than thirty bucks, and it’s a great chance to explore the area, too.
Hit up the Outdoor Pool | $15
Any of the local pools in the city for only $7.50 per person. That’s going to leave some room in the date night budget to grab a couple of snacks from the canteen, or hit up your favourite place to grab a picnic lunch to bring along with you.
Sun and Water at Allan Beach | $20
It’s only thirty minutes outside of the city, and a private oasis if you don’t want to trek the three hours to get to a proper beach in Alberta. Allan Beach is popular through the summer months, and a private beach, meaning you’re going to have to pay to get in – but the small beach makes it feel like you’re on the lake – bring a float to cool off in between basking in the sun.

On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, admission to the Art Gallery of Alberta is completely free, allowing you room in the date night budget to grab a couple of drinks at the nearby bars – or a quick snack from one of the downtown food trucks.

Every Thursday night through the summer there is a new feature coming to the Botanical Gardens. For the price of admission, you can take part in a new activity every week, from craft beer learning to dancing lessons – our favourite pick? The outdoor movie.

Take the beer tour at a local brewery, where you can learn more about the beer and the brewing process, and grab something delicious to eat when you’re finished the tour – that’s a bonus, right?
Swing Dance Lessons | $20
Have you ever wanted to take the floor and learn something new? Sugar Swing dance lessons are offered weekly and give you the chance to show off your skills, and learn them at the same time. The ten dollar lessons are a great way to break out of your comfort zone.

Get a bucket of balls, with enough room left over in the budget, for a couple of beers, at the Victoria driving range. You can rent clubs, or bring your own, and it’s a fun way to keep the balls (and the conversation) moving on your next date night out.

Grab a couple of chairs and head down to the movie on the square, on one of the celebration nights this summer. Since the movie screening is free and there’s usually at least one title that will appeal to an adult audience, you’re going to get the chance to have a night out.
