Romantic date ideas are even easier during the holidays. There’s something about the Twinkling Lights and magic of the holiday season that ups the date night romance a few notches. If you’re in the mood for something special and want to try something new for date night – we’re sharing some of our favourite romantic dates in the city.
All the Pretty Lights | Drive, walk or take a bus through the many light displays in Edmonton. We’ve shared some of our favourite magical Christmas lights displays (find that here) or take a two-hour long tour with ETS. It’s only five bucks, and you’ll see some of the most popular Christmas lights displays on the tour.
Cirque du Soleil’s ‘TORUK’ | Just in time for Christmas, Cirque du Soleil is coming to Edmonton. With performances between December 22 and 26th, with a fantastic performance on Christmas Eve, it’s going to be a show you’re not going to want to miss. Clara’s Dream | Shumka Dancers present this version of the Nutcracker in a classic story, wrapping up holiday celebrations in Edmonton. We’re giving away two tickets to the performance (find the contest here)
Let it Snow | If you’ve got to be at the Mall during the holidays, you might as well experience a bit of the magic. Every Saturday until Christmas, West Edmonton Mall is making it snow. Starting at noon, and continuing on the hour, every hour until four o’clock, you can find the indoor blizzard at the dancing fountains.
Skating Under Twinkling Lights | Grab a pair of skates and head to one of the most romantic places to skate in the city, the Alberta Legislature. Don’t forget a thermos of something hot to drink, or head to one of the local coffee shops to warm up when you’ve finished.
New Year’s Eve Magic | From an old fashioned kitchen Party at Chartier, to a Speakeasy celebration at the Rec Room and even water slides and a Venetian Masquarade, you can continue the romance into the New Year with a romantic New Year’s Eve date.
Warm up with Hot Cocoa | District Cafe, Bru – there are plenty of places in the city that you can warm up with hot cocoa for the perfect date to warm up during those cold winter days.
Dinner and Live Piano | Up the romance for date night and get comfortable in one of the cozy seating areas at Atlas Steak + Fish, inside the Grand Villa Casino. There’s live piano music, and if you want to get up close, even a piano-side table. Share a bottle of wine, try the Josper Grilled vegetables and don’t skip dessert!
Ice Castles | Ice Castles are back in Edmonton this year, and currently under construction at Hawrelak Park. The gorgeous creation should be ready in time for the New Year, so get those plans made to walk through an ice magic wonderland.
