If you haven’t been on a bicycle built for twelve (with a couple of extra seats along the back) you haven’t experienced everything there is to experience during summer in Edmonton. Our new top pick for a group date of the season, Urban Pedal Tours has brought two of these gems to the city with tours embarking on Whyte and Jasper Ave.
Urban Pedal Tours: Old Strathcona
The tour starts off at the Urban Pedal Tours headquarters, near Whyte Ave. You pick your seat, adjust it to the level that’s going to allow you to reach the pedals best and get going to your first of three stops on the tour.
There are three stops on the tour: Empress Alehouse. There, you’ll find a comfortable patio to sit on and a location that’s not too busy, with a decent selection of beer. I opted for a Blindman brew, and my date, a vodka and soda. Here, you’ll spend twenty-ish minutes, hanging out on the patio and finishing your drink.
Back on board the Urban Pedal Tours bike, we made our way over to Malt and Mortar where we were treated to their delicious popcorn, while we drank our beers. You’re going to want to check out the cocktail selection here, but for this tour, we slammed back a couple of our favourite Situation blend, the Afternoon Tea Season.
On the last leg of the tour, and the longest pedaling time, we made our way over to Situation Brewery where we ordered our drinks, and had a tour of the brewery, before making our way back to the headquarters and returned the bike.
What about entertainment? You bring your own entertainment, whether that entertainment is dancing in the center of the giant pedal bike, or using the bluetooth enabled speaker to DJ the ride with sing-along-tunes. If the entertainment is bangin’ and you end up drinking on the tour, or going for a night out after the tour (we suggest El Cortez), you can leave your vehicle parked overnight. We left the vehicle parked overnight and went back the next day to pick it up and it was totally fine.
Urban Pedal Tours can be found at www.urbanpedaltours.com. Pedal tours are $38/person and you’re responsible for buying your own drinks on the tour.
