10 Shows to Watch at Rapid Fire Improv’s 2024 Bonfire Festival - April 11-13
Bonfire is Rapid Fire Theatre’s annual romp of new ideas in improv. Starring the members of the Rapid Fire Theatre ensemble, each show at Bonfire has been created by one of RFT’s own. Every show at Bonfire is a new idea that we’ve never tried before; it might work, it might not, but either way, it’ll be a joy to witness.
This year, catch the show April 11-13, 2024. It’s a full-on chance to get out there, see something you may not have experienced on stage and be the first to witness these fun improv concepts in Edmonton!
Here’s What to watch During Bonfire Festival at Rapid Fire Exchange
The Unboxening
The Unboxening – You fill it, we unpack it. Based on the old timey unboxing videos of Youtube’s past, you the audience can put something in the box before our show and we will unbox it right in front of you, and your items will influence the stories that are told on stage. I know, it’s a lot to unpack…
Let’s Write a Sketch
A team of sketch comedians need a few more additions to their writers’ room… all of you! Come join an experiment in large-scale collective creation: help write a sketch, live, in a very short amount of time! Blur the line between audience member and onstage creator! Push hard to get your deeply specific Beverly Hills Chihuahua reference into the finished sketch!
The Trial
The Trial is a fully improvised trial. What’s the worst that could happen?
The Regulars
We have all seen them, the regulars at a karaoke bar. The table of serious patrons patiently waiting for their turn to sing. They’re the people referring to the list on their phones of go-to bangers and risky new songs awaiting their debut. Think, Cheers meets Glee. Your average Joe, with a song in his heart and some beer in his glass.
Game of Fate
A spin of the wheel, a flip of the coin, a roll of the dice… Game of Fate is the improv show where the improvisor’s destiny is decided by chance. Alaina Sadowski, Michael J Johnson, Matthew Kusmire, Kelly Turner, and Breck Wiltshire will find out what fate has in store for them: a physical restriction? speak with an accent? break out into song? or be eliminated from the show completely?
The Dinner Party
Cecil and Loretta are having guests over for a quaint gathering. There will be laughs, cocktails, and canapé. But one of them has a deep, dark, secret. When they inevitably spill the beans, will the other guests be able to stomach the news or will they all be left walking on eggshells. The audience provides the secret that only you and one improvisor are privy to, while the other actors are left in the dark. Come watch the truth unfold at The Dinner Party!
Closer
CLOSER pushes the boundaries of personal space, emotional stakes, and stage picture through short form improv. Join Joel Hanson, Katie Turner, Quinn Contini, Stephanie Draper and Stephen Raitz as they get closer to each other than ever before in this high stakes, experimental improv show!
Billionaire’s Bonanza
Billionaire’s Bonanza is an improvised parody of the hit TV shows Dragons’ Den and Shark Tank. Based on your suggestions, these eclectic entrepreneurs will pitch bizarre products and outlandish investment ideas to the legion of eccentric billionaires. Will any of the entrepreneurs have what it takes to join the ranks of the ultra-rich 1%? Certainly not. But you’ll be joining the ultra-rich 1% in terms of laughter and having a good time.
Slumber Party
Hey bestie, we’re throwing a slumber party and obviously you have to be there. There will be NO PARENTS, truth or dare, make overs, screaming T Swift lyrics in the dark and of course a bedtime story, so if you’re craving girlhood like the Barbie movie promised, this show is for you. PJS ARE ENCOURAGED.
Just Wing It
Is improv difficult? What about improv while your tongue is on fire? Watch as performers are put through the hot wings gauntlet, giving you a show while fighting through the spice. Will it be mild? Will it be wild? No matter what, it’s gonna be HOT!
