7 Beaches within Three Hours of Edmonton to Visit this Summer
Heading to the beach is honestly my favourite date night activity in the summer. Grab your bbq and some hot dogs and plan a picnic at the beach. These are 7 of the best beaches around Edmonton and some of the amenities that are around the beaches.
7 Beaches to Near Edmonton to See This Summer
Allen Beach
Distance: 43 kms
Only located about 30 minutes west of Edmonton, Allen beach is a private camp resort that features a private day use beach. Cost is $12 per adult and $6 per child. The beach is well taken care of and will provide a full day of leisure close to Edmonton. There is a store onsite for all of your ice cream and treat needs. You can use your own floaty devices, kayaks or stand up paddle boards.

Long Island Lake Beach
Distance: 129 kms
Head out to Westlock for the day at this provincial park. Long Island Beach is 1.5 hours from Edmonton, featuring a smaller lake that is perfect for boating and kayaking. There is lots of picnic tables for large gatherings and a play ground and volleyball net for the kids to play at. A floating dock is a favourite to swim to and jump off. The is a small store on site but plan to bring everything you need.

Sylvan Lake
Distance: 162 km
One of the most popular beaches in Alberta. Sylvan Lake features a small beach area but lots of green space to setup for a day of swimming. This beach town has a ton of amenities like the Big Moo that will cool you off with their famous ice cream and they have floaty devices to purchase to take out on the water. Definitely the busiest beach close to Edmonton.

Kinosoo Beach
Distance: 296 km
The farthest beach on the list, 3 hours east of Edmonton. Located in Cold Lake, with a huge lake great for boating and jet skiing and with over a 3 block stretch of fine sand. The perfect beach in Alberta as it has all the amenities you could need for a full day. Tennis and basketball courts for those who want to play, great sand for lounging and building sand castles, little food stands near by with also restaurants a short walk away. You can rent many water sport devices right on the beach. It has made Canada’s top 25 beaches several times.

Pigeon Lake
Distance: 110 kms
Pigeon Lake has a second name that is common, Ma-Me-O Beach was developed at the south end of the lake, it is known for its white, plentiful sand, there is playgrounds for the kids and a great picnic area. A short drive from edmonton and the is a nice camp ground if you wanted to make a full weekend getaway.

Wabamun Lake
Distance: 67 kms
Wabamun Lake is just as popular as Sylvan Lake but is limited because of being a provincial park and the limits on parking. On a beautiful day expect the park to be full at 11am. If you do make it to Wabamum beach there is plenty to play and explore. Vast green spaces to setup a picnic and bbq and lots sandy beach to lay your towel down and sun tan. Jet ski and boats can be rent for some water adventures as well.

Alberta Beach
Distance: 72 kms
Head north west of Edmonton to Lac Ste. Anne lake for a day at Alberta Beach. The beach is located right in the heart of Village of Alberta Beach providing restaurants and amenities for beach goers. Paddleboats, paddle boards and kayaks are available to rent right at the beach. The beach area has recently been upgrade and there is more sandy beach areas and the grassy spaces are more up-kept now.
