Eat this: Key Lime Pie & Smash Burgers at Flat Boy Burgers
I feel like I’m going to have to get one of those signs you hang on the wall in a workplace, where it’s been xx days since the last incident, but instead of incident, it’s the amount of days since I’ve had the key lime pie at Flat Boy Burgers. I had it last night and I can’t stop thinking about it. Someone asked me if it was as good as the key lime at Duchess and though I’ve had it before, at least a dozen times, the flavours didn’t pop into my mouth like they did when I think about the key lime pie at Flat Boy Burgers.
That’s saying something. At five bucks a slice, it’s a delicious, delicious bite. I devoured almost the whole thing and then realized I was on a date, there was an extra fork, and it was meant to be shared.
Flat Boy Burgers
Flat Boy Burgers popped up on our radar when I saw Collossal Cravings doing the challenge, where if you finish the six patty burger in three minutes, you’ll snag yourself a cooler-than-cool crewneck. I can’t tell you how badly I want this crewneck - and I know what you’re thinking, you could just buy it. But if I bought it - where would the pride be in that? That’s the kind of sweatshirt that you wear as a humble-brag, like ‘yeah, I finished that boy at Flat Boy six patty challenge’.
The burger brought me back to my last trip to California, in and out burger - but with a better sauce. The smash was perfect, crispy and just so-damn-naked-burger-good. The bun? Perfect. The sauce? I’m not even usually a sauce-y burger guy, but it was delicious. Like, wow-just-made-it-to-the-top-five-burgers-in-edmonton-delicious.
The order of fries was generous. We ordered one to share, and had leftovers. Crispy. Just really, really well done.
Flat Boy Burgers is like this hidden burger speakeasy that I’m ashamed I didn't know about sooner, and try sooner. When you visit, you’ll get what I mean about Speakeasy. It’s tucked away in Granite Curling Club in Old Strathcona. Grab a chair, watch the curling league, and eat your burger in (or take it to go).
It’s been zero days since I had the key lime pie at Flat Boy Burgers.
